SUMMARY:Introduction to research data management for PhD students
DESCRIPTION:Date and time:  30 April 2025 from 9:00 to 16:00. \nTarget group\nThis course is exclusively for PhD students at University of Copenhagen. \nAcademic Aim\nThe purpose of this course is to introduce PhD students from the humanities to the basics of research data management\, how to comply with the UCPH Data Management Policy\, and how to act in accordance with responsible research conduct. \nData management is an important feature of responsible conduct in research\, research integrity and ethical handling of research data. The storage and processing of research data is a concern for funding bodies as well as legislators\, both on a national and international scale. EU’s FAIR data principles (which states that data should be Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable and Re-usable) and Open Science as such are also increasingly important aspects of research and research dissemination. \nAs part of the UCPH Data Management Policy\, all researchers will be required to fill out a Data Management Plan as part of their work. This one-day course on Research Data Management will provide information on how to get started on managing research data\, teach participants how to write a data management plan and inform them of (legal) requirements and university and faculty procedures and policies on research data.  A case presentation from a faculty member from the Humanities presenting their research areas from a data management and ethical perspective is an essential element of the course. \nThe course will be taught by administrative and research staff with experience in data management. \nCourse organisers\nLene Offersgaard (leneo@hum.ku.dk)\, University of Copenhagen\nEmil Zolthan Bozard\, University of Copenhagen \nPreparation\nParticipants will fill in a template (1 page) regarding data management issues related to their research project. Template will be provided after admission to the course and must be submitted to phd@hrsc.ku.dk no later than 23 April 2025. \nParticipants should read the material referred to in the first section of the reading list for the course. \nDuring and after the course the participants will prepare a draft of a data management plan (DMP) and receive feedback on its contents from the course presenters. Please bring a computer to create your DMP draft during the course. The DMP draft is to be forwarded todatamanagement@hum.ku.dk no later than 14 May 2025. \nMax. number of students: 15. In case of fewer than 6 participants\, the course will be cancelled. \nECTS: 1 \nRegistration: Please register via the link in the box no later than 10 April 2025. \nFurther information: Please contact the PhD Administration (phd@hrsc.ku.dk) or the course organisers for further information. \nReadings: Readings for the course are available in electronic form. \nReadings before class: \n\nRCR – A Danish textbook for courses in Responsible Conduct of Research. SUMMARY:Rhetoric and Communication in Digital and Technological Transition
DESCRIPTION:Dates and time: 7-8 October 2024\, from 9:00 to 17:00\, 9 October 2024\, from 9:00 to 12:00. \nComplex\, multimodal forms of communication characterize our time. Digital and technological developments place new demands on communication and rhetorical studies and open new avenues for research and reflection. Privately owned platforms\, algorithms\, and AI are increasingly shaping the communication practices and agency of our age\, just as the printing press\, radio\, television and the Internet have done and continue to do in different ways. \nWith the course theme “Rhetoric and Communication in Digital and Technological Transition” we want to foster discussions about the opportunities and challenges currently emerging in this context of digital and technological transition for rhetoric\, media\, and communication studies. This PhD course happens in conjunction with the Nordic Rhetoric Association Conference\, focusing on the same themes. It features the conference keynoters as doctoral teachers\, providing an occasion for PhD students interested in communication\, rhetoric\, and digitality\, to dive deeper into the theoretical and methodological threads that will also thematize the conference event. \n(See the conference website here for info: https://comm.ku.dk/research/rhetoric/calendar/nkrf9/) \nTo frame the course themes\, we have four international experts collaborating in the teaching\, that have each placed themselves at the forefront of communication and rhetorical research on topics related to rhetoric\, communication\, and digitality: Sine Just (Roskilde University)\, Alan Finlayson (University of East Anglia\, UK)\, Damien Pfister (University of Maryland\, USA)\, and Johanna Hartelius (University of Texas\, Austin\, USA). Each expert will lead a teaching block dedicated to a specific course theme: 1) How digital technologies are stifling public debate and potential interventions; 2) Digital culture wars and the far-right online power base; 3) Ecology and rhetoric after ubiquitous computation; 3) Text to image AI technologies and learning in transition. \nAt the end of the course all of four experts together will lead a joint workshop to help participants develop their own research projects at the light of the new theoretical and methodological tools introduced throughout the four thematic teaching blocks. \nCourse organiser: Pamela Pietrucci\, Section of Rhetoric\, Department of Communication\, University of Copenhagen. \nLanguage: English \nMax. numbers of participants: 20 \nECTS: 1.5 ECTS for participation without paper presentation. 3 ECTS for participation with paper presentation. \nVenue: Faculty of Humanities\, South Campus University of Copenhagen. Room: 6A.0.6 (Building 6A\, Ground floor\, Room 6). \nCourse Fee: The PhD School at the Faculty of Humanities participates in Denmark’s national network for PhD courses. Participation in the course is free of charge for PhD students enrolled at participating Universities. PhD students from Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and PhD students enrolled at a university outside Denmark will be charged a course fee of DKK 3\,000. \nRegistration: Please register via the link in the box no later than 15 August 2024. Registration is closed \nFurther information: For more information about the PhD course\, please contact the PhD Administration (phd@hrsc.ku.dk) or the course organiser. \n  \nLiterature: TBA \n Disclaimer:DDSA has explicit permission from Arcanic and the owners of the https://phdcourses.dk/ website to display the courses on ddsa.dk.
