SUMMARY:Open-source Computational Fluid Dynamics (2024)
DESCRIPTION:Organiser: Jakob Hærvig\, Johan Rønby \nLecturers:\n Jakob Hærvig\, Aalborg University (AAU)\n Johan Rønby\, Roskilde University (RUC) \nECTS: 5 \nDate and Time: 10-14 June 2024 (week 24) \nDeadline: 20 May 2024 \nPlace: AAU Energy\, Pontoppidanstraede 101 room 1.001\, Aalborg\, Denmark \nFormat: In person \nMax no. of participants: 25 \nCourse webpage: https://opensourcecfdcourse.dk/ \nDescription: This course is an introduction to CFD using OpenFOAM\, which is the most widely used open-source toolkit for CFD. The fact that OpenFOAM is open-source makes it highly versatile allowing you to modify any aspect of the code to your needs and set up fully automated workflows. In this course\, you will get knowledge about all aspects of OpenFOAM and learn how to comfortably set up simulation of various fluid flows yourself. See the course webpage for a detailed description. A full description day-to-day schedule can be found at our course website. \nPrerequisites: Participants need to be familiar with the most basic linux commands before attending the course. Training material will be sent out to participants in due time before the course starts. \nForm of evaluation: The course will be evaluated through miniprojects. \nCourse literature: Participants need a working installation of OpenFOAM before attending the course. A guide will be sent out to participants in due time before the course starts. \n Disclaimer:DDSA has explicit permission from Arcanic and the owners of the https://phdcourses.dk/ website to display the courses on ddsa.dk.

The course will also present the basics of nuclear energy systems in the context of low-carbon electricity generation. In particular\, the problem of control of nuclear energy systems (fission and fusion reactors) with some examples coming from the industry and the research filed will be presented in more detail. \nThe basic techniques of analysis\, operation\, control methods for energy systems will be presented\, including power system optimisation methods and the application of artificial intelligence machine learning methods. Some contents are based on up-to-date research results. \n\nDay 1:\n\nOverview of Energy Utilisations\, Zhe Chen\, 1.5 hours\nBasics of energy conversion systems\, Zhe Chen\, 1.5 hours\nRenewable Energy and Energy Storage Technologies\, Zhe Chen\, 1.5 hours\nRenewable energy transmission: operation and control\, Yanbo Wang\, 1.5 hours\n\n\nDay 2:\n\nBasics of nuclear energy systems\, Mauro Cappelli\, 2 hours\nControl of nuclear energy systems\, Mauro Cappelli\, 1.5 hours\nInstrumentation and Control (I&C) Systems for Nuclear Applications\, Mauro Cappelli\, 1.5 hours\nPrinciples of design of a central I&C System\, Mauro Cappelli\, 1 hours\n\n\nDay 3:\n\nOptimisation methods and power system optimal control\, Zhe Chen\, 1.5 hours\nEnergy system integration and Optimization\, Zhe Chen\, 1.5 hours\nMachine learning applications in energy systems\, PhD researcher 1\, 1.5 hours\nDiscussion and Assignments\,1.5 hours\n\n\n\n  \nPrerequisites: General knowledge in electrical AC circuits and electrical power engineering\, preferably background at the graduate level in power systems. \nForm of evaluation: Assignments to be completed\, the reports to be submitted and evaluated after the course. \n  \n Disclaimer:DDSA has explicit permission from Arcanic and the owners of the https://phdcourses.dk/ website to display the courses on ddsa.dk.
