SUMMARY:Data Science in Practice Series (Event 5) - European High Performance Computing and AI Factories
DESCRIPTION:Data Science in Practice is a series of events that unites professionals from diverse domains and sectors who work with data science\, providing a platform to share insights\, discuss challenges\, and explore innovative solutions. \nThe events emphasises the journey to a solution rather than the solution itself\, as well as the mistakes along the way rather than the successes. Designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange\, Data Science in Practice extends beyond the physical events. It encourages participants to engage in informal discussions and smaller group interactions between events\, promoting continuous engagement and a robust network. \nRegister here: Data Science in Practice (Event #5) – High Performance Computing in Europe and AI factories – Fill in form \nEvent 5 – European HPC and AI Factories \nWe invite companies\, researchers\, and public-sector partners to a focused session on the current landscape of High-Performance Computing (HPC) in Europe. The event will explore how HPC clusters and emerging AI Factories enable large-scale computation\, simulation\, and data-driven innovation.\nWe will introduce the European HPC ecosystem and highlight the capabilities of LUMI – one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers – including how organizations can access and use it for AI development\, large-scale analytics\, and advanced modelling.  \nDuring the session\, we will: \n\nPresent the HPC landscape and European initiatives \nDiscuss how HPC and AI Factories support innovation in companies and research \nWe’ll highlight the critical role of Data Management in successful AI and Supercomputing utilization. \nShare practical cases and use examples from different sectors \nAddress data management and workflow considerations when working with HPC\n  \n\nCall for Participation\n We are looking for companies interested in running an AI project on LUMI as part of this event. SUMMARY:Data Science in Practice Series (Event 4) - GenAI and Ethics
DESCRIPTION:Data Science in Practice is a series of 4 events that unites professionals from diverse domains and sectors who work with data science\, providing a platform to share insights\, discuss challenges\, and explore innovative solutions. \nEvent 4 – GenAI and Ethics \nGenerative AI (GenAI) and AI in general are significantly transforming how individuals and companies operate. The productivity gains from automating tasks and decision-making are becoming commonplace\, as AI enhances efficiency by taking over repetitive tasks\, allowing employees to focus on more complex work and increasing job satisfaction. However\, the risks of unchecked AI adoption are increasingly clear\, including issues like hallucinations in LLMs\, opaque decisions from high-risk models\, and inadequate governance frameworks leading to ethical challenges. Alarmingly\, some agentic AI systems are already exhibiting self-preservation and deceptive behaviors as their capabilities expand. \nAs a result\, AI and GenAI are now seen as technologies that must be regulated\, as highlighted by the EU AI Act\, which imposes obligations on high-risk AI and GenAI systems. This presentation will provide a high-level overview of the EU AI Act and other relevant legislation affecting the pharmaceutical industry’s AI landscape. It will also detail how companies like Novo Nordisk is adapting to these requirements by implementing safety guardrails\, quality and risk management systems\, and effective AI governance frameworks to ensure responsible AI use that benefits patients and society. Finally\, it will showcase how the Responsible AI team operates at the intersection of data science\, engineering\, and compliance to ensure best practices and adherence to regulations. \nAgenda (subject to change)\n13.00 Welcome & Introduction\n13.15 Icebreaker\n13.30 Presentation\n14.15 Discussion & Q&A\n14.30 Break\n14.45 Facilitated group discussions\n1. How to explain AI and GenAI model decision-making to create transparency for non-technical stakeholders?\n2. How can the importance and relevance of bias in algorithms be determined\, and how can its impacts be mitigated?\n3. What are good practices to manage AI models through their entire lifecycle (exploration\, development\, production and retirement)?\n15.30 Facilitated networking\n16.00 End \nRegister here: https://forms.gle/Bpn5dE6F3XzQb9vw7

SUMMARY:Data Science in Practice Series (Event 1) - Data Access\, Usage\, Quality\, and Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:Data Science in Practice is a series of 4 events that unites professionals from diverse domains and sectors who work with data science\, providing a platform to share insights\, discuss challenges\, and explore innovative solutions. \nAre you missing \n\nCase studies and real-world applications of data science?\nA community of like-minded professionals where you can share and learn about the challenges of working with data science?\nInsights into the latest trends and technologies in data science?\nAccess to leading professionals and thought-provoking discussions?\n\nWhether you are working with data management\, model deployment\, or the entire MLOps process\, Data Science in Practice is a space for you. Each event features leading professionals\, interactive sessions\, and ample networking opportunities. \nFormat\nThe first 1.5 hours is a structured format (presentations\, panels\, workshops)\nThe last 1.5 hours is an unstructured format (unconference\, networking) \nTo accommodate accessibility to the events no matter if your work allows such networking within work hours or not\, two events run within work hours from 13:00-16:00 and two events run after work hours from 16:00-19:00\, providing equal options to participate despite sector. \nOur goal is to have 20-40 participants per event. \nWhile participation in each event is not mandatory\, keeping in mind that building a strong network requires time and dedication. Regular attendance will help you forge meaningful connections and maximize the benefits of these networking opportunities. \nEvent 1 – Data Access\, Usage\, Quality\, and Infrastructure\nIn our first session\, we’ll cover what makes a strong foundation for any data science project\, starting with the data. That includes access to the right data\, ensuring quality\, documentation\, usage rights\, and having the infrastructure to store\, process\, and version it effectively. A strong foundation also requires understanding the context behind the data\, which is where close collaboration with domain experts comes in. It’s all about building data workflows that are technically solid and aligned with the real-world problems we’re trying to solve. \nAgenda (subject to change)\n13.00 Welcome & Introduction by Marie Helene Andersson\, Managing Director of DDSA\n13.15 Icebreaker \n13.30 Presentation: Turning Physical into Digital: Data Workflows at PUFIN-ID by Ioanna Psylla\, Digital Team Manager at Pufin-ID\nThis talk explores how PUFIN-ID captures and manages physical tag data crafted for product authentication systems. We’ll cover image collection\, data processing\, versioning with Data Version Control\, and creating annotations with CVAT (Leading Image & Video Data Annotation Platform | CVAT). We’ll highlight key challenges in working with physical data\, ranging from manufacturing constraints to image capture consistency\, and share upcoming improvements to enhance quality and efficiency. \n14.15 Discussion & Q&A\n14.30 Break\n14.45 Inspirational material\n15.00 Unconference: Data collection\, quality\, usage rights\, infrastructure\n15.30 Facilitated Networking\n16.00 End \nRegister here: https://forms.gle/1BidHYtuyBhTYk7h8
