New application criteria for the DDSA Travel Grant focus on opportunities for bachelor’s and master’s students within data science!

The DDSA Travel Grant has become quite popular among data scientists in Denmark. Last time, the grant ran out of funding within only 10 days. To ensure that the funds are distributed across the entire duration of the open call, the DDSA Board of Directors has decided to modify the application criteria for the upcoming cycle.

‘We want continually to adapt to the needs of the community and support the development of Danish data science in the best possible way. Therefore, one of the changes for the upcoming DDSA Travel Grant will be that it is eligible only to bachelor’s and master’s students. We are therefore closing the funding possibilities for travel activities for PhD students and Postdocs – at least for now,’ says Lars Kai Hansen, Chairman of the DDSA Board of Directors.

‘We see funding opportunities for bachelor’s and master’s students travelling out as an investment in the future pipeline of data science talent for e.g., PhD programmes, and there are not a lot of funding opportunities for this segment,’ Lars Kai Hansen elaborates and continues: ‘PhD students and Postdocs, whom we have funded to date, have other means of funding their travel activities. Therefore, we have decided to focus on bachelor’s and master’s students’.

The DDSA Board will continue to monitor and adjust the call ongoingly.

The DDSA Travel Grant has two calls per year, with approximately 20 grants each. The grant contributes up to DKK 15,000 to cover costs for travel, accommodation, and Visa, tuition, and course/conference fees related to a planned scientific activity outside of Denmark within the field of data science.

The next call for the DDSA Travel Grant will open on September 1, 2023, so stay tuned for more here and on LinkedIn and Twitter!
