DDSA Travel Grant

Danish Data Science Academy provides funding for students situated in Denmark to attend events outside of Denmark. The purpose of the grant is to enable bachelor’s and master’s degree students to engage in activity within the international data science community. Applications can be submitted until funds run out.

______________________________________________

What does the grant cover?

The grant contributes up to DKK 15,000 to cover costs for travel, accommodation, Visa fees, tuition fees and course/conference fees related to a planned scientific activity outside of Denmark.

The DDSA travel grant does not fund travels inside of Denmark and does not cover salary, daily allowances, food expenses or local transportation.

Who can apply?

We welcome applications from bachelor’s and master’s degree students enrolled at a Danish university at the time of the planned travel activity.

When can you apply?

The DDSA Travel Grant has two calls per year, with approximately 20 grants per call. In 2023, applications can be submitted within two periods: from April to August and from September to December. For each period, the call will remain open until funds are exhausted.

Applications will be processed within 4 weeks. Please note, your application must be submitted at least 1 month prior to the start of the planned travel activity.

Applicants can receive one grant per calendar year.

Eligibility

The travel grant applied for must have a clear scientific purpose – e.g., attending workshops and conferences, contributing posters and presentations, interacting with scientists in the international data science community or doing research/semester abroad.

Please note, the grant must be spent within one year from the date of application. As a result, we can’t fund applications where the travel activity will finish more than a year after the application date.

Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • How the topic of your planned activity aligns with the DDSA Research Scope
  • How the planned travel/activity is relevant to your current scientific development and activities
  • Your scientific qualifications (e.g., academic grades, achievements, ideas, presentations, publication lists etc.)
How to apply?

Applications must be submitted via the DDSA Funding Portal.

If you are attending a workshop, conference, course, etc., you must include a program for the activity.

If you apply for a research/semester abroad, you must include an acceptance letter from the host institution.

Payout of grant

Grants will be awarded based on approved budget/budget posts and transferred as a reimbursement of the actual costs after the applicant has submitted a final account, using the DDSA final account form.

Please note, payout of the grant is made to your personal account.

Acknowledgement

Support from DDSA should be acknowledged in any scientific contribution or output generated as part of the DDSA Travel Grant.
