Education & Networking Committee (ENC)

  • The Education and Networking Committee (ENC) evaluates and prioritises applications and ideas for large events, activities, and courses
  • Monitors the “small events & activities” program which runs via the secretariat
  • Provides the BoD with strategic input on the need for new courses, events, activities, etc.
  • Provides input for community resources that provide a national overview of courses, events, and training options
  • Appoints the Young Academy Panel

Composition and appointment

  • The committee will comprise up to twelve members. Half of the committee is named below, and the remaining half will be appointed after the DDSA is launched. The rationale for having twelve members is that the diverse areas and sub-disciplines of data science are adequately represented.
  • Members will be appointed by the BoD based on their field of expertise and relevant experience, including involvement in community-based activities such as other national and international data science networks and initiatives. The composition of the ENC should ensure broad coverage of the diversity in the field of data science.
  • All members (including the Chair) are initially appointed for a period of 2.5 years.
  • After 2.5 years, new members are appointed for 3 years by the BoD via a community-driven nomination process. Members can be re-elected for another term but no more than 50% of the committee can be re-appointed and members can only serve for two consecutive terms.
  • If a member resigns before the end of their term, a new member will be appointed by the BoD.
  • ENC members receive no remuneration, but members’ travel expenses are reimbursed.

Role of the Chair

  • In the event of a tie when voting, the ENC Chair has the deciding vote
  • The ENC Chair can join DDSA BoD meetings as a non-voting member
  • The ENC Chair contributes to the annual report
  • The ENC Chair ensures adherence to the DDSA’s code of conduct

  • The ENC will meet at least three times a year
  • The ENC will meet with the Young Academy Panel at least twice a year to get feedback on activities and ideas for new activities

ENC members

Seven of the members have already accepted to serve on the committee for their first term. The remaining five members will be appointed after the launch of the DDSA via a community nomination process.
