Travel Grants
Danish Data Science Academy provides funding for students situated in Denmark to attend events outside of Denmark. The purpose of the grant is to enable bachelor’s and master’s students to engage in activities within the international data science community.
The Travel Grant call is closed
The call is expected to open again in primo 2025.
What does the grant cover?
The grant contributes up to DKK 15,000 to cover costs for travel, accommodation, Visa fees, tuition fees and course/conference fees related to a data science activity outside of Denmark.
The grant does not fund travels inside of Denmark and does not cover salary, daily allowances, food expenses, local transportation, health insurance or course materials.
In general, DDSA promotes the use of public transport, and encourages the use of train / bus where possible. The use of own private vehicle is only allowed if it is more expedient in terms of cost and time, and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Who can apply?
To apply for a DDSA Travel Grant, you must adhere to the following eligibility requirements:
- You must be enrolled on a bachelor’s or master’s degree programme at a Danish university at the time of the planned travel activity.
- Your educational profile must have a relevant data science component.
- Your activity must takes place outside of Denmark and have a clear scientific purpose or topic – e.g., attending workshops and conferences, contributing posters and presentations, or engaging in a research stay.
- The activity topic must align with the DDSA research scope.
When can you apply?
The call is open year-round or until funds are exhausted. Applications will be processed within 6 weeks.
You must submit your application at least 1 month prior to the start of the planned travel activity.
Applicants can receive one grant per calendar year.
How to apply?
Applications must be submitted via the DDSA Portal.
You must include relevant documentation of the activity:
- If you are attending a workshop, conference, course, etc., you must include a program for the activity. If the current program is not yet available, please provide the previous year’s program.
- If you apply for a research stay, you must include an acceptance letter from the host institution.
- If you apply for a semester abroad, you must include an acceptance letter from the host institution and provide information on the courses you plan to take during your exchange.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- How the planned activity is relevant to your current educational development and activities
- How the topic of your planned activity is relevant to the DDSA research scope
Applications not fulfilling the eligibility and documentation requirements will be rejected without further consideration.
Payout of grant
Grants will be awarded based on approved budget posts and transferred as a reimbursement of the actual costs after the applicant has submitted a final report and account.
Payout of the grant is made to your personal account.
Acknowledgement
Support from DDSA should be acknowledged in any scientific contribution or output generated as part of the DDSA Travel Grant.
