DDSA Travel Grants – Apply now!

The Danish Data Science Academy provides funding for students and young researchers situated in Denmark to attend events outside of Denmark. The purpose of the grant is to enable students and researchers from bachelor to postdoc level to engage in activity within the international data science community or do research stays abroad. The call is open for applications all year round.

What does the grant cover?

The grant contributes up to DKK 15,000 to cover costs for travel, accommodation, Visa fees and course/conference fees related to a planned scientific activity outside of Denmark.

The DDSA travel grant does not fund travels inside of Denmark and does not cover salary.

Who can apply?

We welcome applications from students and researchers from bachelor to postdoc level enrolled or employed at a Danish university at the time of the planned travel activity.

When can you apply?

Applications can be submitted all year round and will be processed within 4 weeks. Please note, your application must be sent at least 1 month prior to the start of the planned travel activity.

You may apply for multiple travels grants; however, the upper grant limit per applicant is DDK 15,000 in total per year. If the payout of the first travel grant does not exceed DDK 15,000, you can reapply until the total limit is reached and as long as the DDSA funds have not run out. You must apply separately for each travel grant.

The travel grant applied for must have a clear scientific purpose – e.g., attending workshops and conferences, contributing posters and presentations, interacting with scientists in the international data science community or doing research abroad.

Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • How the topic of your planned activity aligns with the DDSA objectives
  • How the planned travel/activity is relevant to your current scientific development and activities
  • Your scientific qualifications (e.g., academic grades, achievements, ideas, presentations, publication lists etc.)
How to apply?

Applicants must fill out the DDSA application form including the relevant attachments and send it as an spreadsheet to with the subject line: ‘Application: DDSA Travel Grant: Your Last Name’.

If you are attending a workshop, conference, course, etc., you must include a program for the activity.

If you apply for a research stay, you must include an acceptance letter from the host institution.

Payout of grant

Grants will be awarded based on approved budget/budget posts and transferred as a reimbursement of the actual costs after the applicant has submitted a final account, using the DDSA final account form. Exceptions can be made if the realisation of the travel depends on an up-front payout of the grant.

For PhDs and postdocs payout of the grant is made to your home institution.

For bachelor and master students, payout is made to your personal account.
