Neelu Madan

Position: Postdoctoral Researcher, Aalborg University
Categories: Mentors
Location: Region Nordjylland

Background

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at Aalborg University, specializing in computer vision and deep learning. My primary research focuses on self-supervised representation learning as a means to address the limitations of label-intensive methods. Motivated by the time demands and potential biases of manual annotation, I explore techniques for learning robust visual representations — from appearance-based features to structured, object-centric scene decomposition models. I have been working with applications such as anomaly detection, object tracking, and video object segmentation, particularly in domains such as visual surveillance and fashion video analysis. I hold a PhD from Aalborg University, where my dissertation was recognized with the Outstanding Thesis of the Year Award (Spar Nord Research Prize).

Motivation

I am excited to join the mentoring programme as a mentor to support and inspire the next generation of data scientists and AI researchers. Having navigated the challenges of academia and research, I understand the value of guidance and community. I hope to share my experience in computer vision, self-supervised learning, and foundation models to help mentees grow. Mentoring is also a chance for me to reflect, improve my communication skills, and expand my professional network through meaningful connections.
