Background

I am a microbiologist who has worked extensively with genomics, bioinformatics and data science in my research career. Currently I am an associate professor at The Technical University of Denmark, where I have course responsibility in a MSc applied metagenomics course. In my research, I aim to build the tools and conduct the analysis needed to understand the epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes as they spread throughout genomes, ecosystems and hosts in time and space. Currently I hold an NNF Data Science Emerging Investigator grant and lead a NordForsk network of researchers across 6 Nordic universities. Additionally, I represent the National Food Institute in the Danish AMR alliance, which includes academia, industry, patient organizations, authorities and other stakeholders. In addition to my research and teaching activities, I work a lot with science dissemination and lead communication projects supported by “Sundhedsdonationer” and the Carlsberg Foundation. I write popular science articles, and make videos and other products with relevant influencers and professionals. I also currently chair the science communication committee in the Young Academy of Denmark.
