About the Nomination

Every 2.5 years, the seats in the governing bodies of Danish Data Science Academy are appointed based on a community-driven nomination process. Each body must have a representation reflecting the diversity of data science with respect to sub-fields, affiliation, geography, gender, and background. It is the DDSA Board of Directors who appoints new members.

Read more below about each of the governing bodies’ work and the criteria for nominees to join. We warmly welcome you to submit your nomination for one or more of the governing bodies, if you meet the criteria for each of them. You can only be appointed to one.

The nomination is open 1 October to 1 November 2026.

You are more than welcome to check-out our FAQ if you are looking for more answers.

For direct questions, we will soon announce live webinars in the Ask-Me-Anything style with existing members of DDSA governing bodies.

Testimonials

Melih Kandemir

Associate Professor, University of Southern Denmark

Fellowship Evaluation Committee

“I felt obliged and wanted to contribute to the development of this extremely nice society even further. As an AI expert and researcher, I thought the most decisive contribution I could make would be to have a say on which AI projects should be funded to bring the engagement of the Danish society with AI to the next level.”

“It’s really nice to, even while being still early-career, be able to give back to people who are perhaps even earlier in their career, and to get to have your voice heard in what the future of the Danish data science community needs.”

Hans-Jörg Schulz

Associate Professor, Aarhus University

Education & Networking Committee

“As much we at a DDSA panel all enjoy debating with each other what “the right” definition of data science is, as much do we enjoy the fresh perspectives and new questions that other ideas of data science bring to the table.”

“The task now is to consolidate and grow the Danish data science community further while helping a broader array of industry actors better understand and realize gains from leveraging advanced data science methods.”

FAQ

When is the nomination process taking place?

The nomination is open from October 1st to November 1st, 2026.

The appointment of new members will be announced by December 2026.

The new governing bodies are appointed for the period starting January 2027 and run until June 2029.

Who are the governing bodies of DDSA?

DDSA holds four governing bodies in the new period:

Board of Directors – 7 members
Scientific Committee – 15 members
Young Academy Panel – 15 members
Advisory Panel – 15 members

The nomination concerns the three latter.

The Board of Directors were named as part of the application for funding for the new period, and thus not part of the nomination process 2026.

Members of the governing bodies can be re-elected for another term, but no more than 50% of seats in each body can be filled by re-appointed members. This model ensures that any perceived or real bias in the composition of the bodies may be strategically adjusted prior to the nomination process starting.

If a member of the governing bodies resigns before the end of their term, a new member will be appointed by the BoD based on the nomination list.

What is meant with a community-driven process?

Every 2.5 years, the seats in the governing bodies of Danish Data Science Academy are appointed based on a community-driven nomination process.

This means that we rely on the community to encourage each other; colleagues, study mates, acquaintances; to seek a seat in the DDSA governing bodies.

We often phrase that we are “of, by and for the data science community” and thus depend on a broad representation of people engaged within the data sciences, to deliver great conditions for data science.

We are interested in self-nominations from people who wish to contribute actively with their knowledge, their ideas and their time fostering the vibrant data science community in Denmark.

How do I self-nominate or nominate someone else?

When you wish to join a DDSA governing body you self-nominate via the nomination form in the DDSA portal.

You are guided through each step including which body or bodies you are nominating for and asked to elaborate on why you wish to join, and how you would like to contribute.

A support letter, from a friend or colleague for instance, can be uploaded to the nomination form, but it is not a requirement.

When you wish to nominate a person, you should encourage the person to self-nominate. You can help the person, by writing a support letter telling why you believe this person’s contributions would fit DDSA governing bodies.

What are the eligibility criteria and who are assessing the nominations?

In the assessment of new members, Danish Data Science Academy emphasizes:

  • The nominee’s ability to contribute and carry out the responsibilities of the governing body
  • The nominee’s motivation and relevant experience within data science
  • The diversity of the body members with respect to e.g. data science field, sector affiliation, regional representation, gender and background

Specific eligibility criteria for the Scientific Committee, the Young Academy Panel and the Advisory Panel is listed in the description of each of them on DDSA webpage.

It is the DDSA Board of Directors who asses and appoints new members of the Scientific Committee, the Young Academy Panel and the Advisory Panel.

Where can I learn more?

During the nomination period 1 October to 1 November 2026, we will announce Ask-Me-Anything webinars.

There will be a physical Ask-Me-Anything on Friday 9 October at the D3A conference at Nyborg Strand.

You are welcome to reach out to current members and questions can be raised to secretariat@ddsa.dk.

What if I am not appointed?

We always welcome engaged persons of the data science community.

If there is a specific task you would like to contribute to, or an idea you wish to discuss, please reach out to one of the chairs, or to the secretariat.

If you have agreed that DDSA can keep you on the nomination list, your application will be considered again, should a seat become available within the appointed period (2027-2029).
