AI will wipe out humanity. AI will take all our jobs. AI will make tech giants the rulers of the world.

Never before has AI been discussed more intensely than it is today, and it is against this backdrop that this year’s Danish AI Championship is taking place from 17-20 September 2026.

Nordic AI CUP 2026

The Danish AI Championship (DM in AI) is a team competition for young people who compete in three challenges. This year’s winner will, for the first time, qualify for the inaugural Nordic AI Championship, the Nordic AI Cup.

There is a tremendous need to put talent on the map in Denmark. We are highly skilled in AI, and the Danish AI Championship helps create a community around AI, a network that generates value for both the participants and for Denmark. In fact, Denmark is in a very strong position globally when it comes to AI,” says Marie Helene Andersson, Managing Director of the Danish Data Science Academy, which, together with the Pioneer Centre for AI and the company Ambolt AI, is organizing the Danish part of the Nordic AI Cup.

This year, the perspective is also Nordic, and takes place in a different geopolitical context than when Ambolt AI launched the first Danish AI Championship five years ago.

One of our goals is to strengthen Nordic collaboration on AI and provide young people with a professional network. More than ever, the global situation makes it important to retain the talent we have in the Nordic region,” says Serge Belongie, Director of the Pioneer Centre for AI.

Nordic sovereignty in AI and data science has become an increasingly important topic in recent years, making this year’s Danish AI Championship more than just a competition.

On a political level, it brings the Nordic countries closer together. We are building Nordic collaboration in AI from the grassroots level, starting with young talent, and through initiatives such as this competition we can help break down barriers between the Nordic countries. It is a very strong Nordic success story that so many talented individuals have emerged across the Nordic region,” says Serge Belongie.

Ambolt AI is pleased that Denmark has the highest number of registrations in the Nordic region for this year’s national championship.

With 120 participants, this year’s event in Denmark will be very large, in fact the largest in the Nordic region. This year, participants will be presented with three cases during a virtual kick-off. Over the following days, they will work from home to develop an AI solution that can be deployed in production. The top five teams will then undergo a manual review process, where we validate that they have not cheated and evaluate the various solutions before selecting a winner. The overall winner will be the team that has performed best across all three use cases,” says Andreas Berre Eriksen, CEO of Ambolt AI.

He adds that winners often go on to leverage the title to support their start-up ventures or as a valuable addition to their CVs.
